To activate the slider, go to Design--Page Elements, click on 'Edit' Featured posts section, add this code -

Add the relevant links as mentioned in the code and save the changes. The two sidebars on either side of the main column include various widgets - About us, archive, Popular Posts widget etc., modify them as per your need from Design--Page Elements.
