Colorvoid Blogger Skin edit post

Posted by Clyde On Tuesday, September 16, 2008
The colorvoid blogger skin has been ported to blogger by Blog and Web and is an original design by Arcsin.
The Colorvoid Blogger Skin
A two column template that looks attractive, has a couple of features and a neat design, is what summarises the Colorvoid blogger skin. It starts off with the blog title and description that lies above the header image. The title on the left while the description finds itself on the far right.

The header image is extremely attractive a flower design with spirals etc, with the navigational tabs present at the bottom of the header image. The blog has a tiny headline on a slightly darker background with the post date on its extreme right.

The author labels and comments link are at the bottom of the post. The sidebar lies on the right of the main column and has a nice rounded element for each of the widgets in it. All the four corners of the template are rounded giving it a nice feel.

Fantastic layout! I'm using it currently for a new blog I'm making and it's just great. Especially with the tabs, where you can post a static page (blog post that doesn't have a date or comment link - so, /made/ to look like a normal page! :D).

There's only one problem. Open my blog (with this layout) in Firefox, and everything's perfect, just like in your screenshot. Open the same thing in IE and surprise (or maybe not), it looks like crap. Why? Take a look:

    IE: http://www.imagesplace.net/images/explorer.png

    Ff: http://www.imagesplace.net/images/firefox.png

Do you see the white space under the tabs in Firefox that dissapear in IE and therefore ruin the whole effect of the layout? And it's not just a problem with my blog, since I'm using the actual blog example from your screenshot, hosted here by the person who made the layout themselves: http://colorvoid-btemplates.blogspot.com.

So what to do? Should I just ignore the IE users and make them suffer, or should I take action? As in, trying to expiriment with the background spirals pic and adjusting the height to make space. Or trying to modify the code, even though I don't understand half of it.

Could you help me out please? Contact me at nudgevilleATgmailDOTcom, obviously replacing the AT and DOT with their appropriate symbols. :D Or if you're lazy like me, then just simply post a reply here, since I'll check this blog post anyways for a reply. xD

    Hey Feabionsu,

I took a look at your blog, the problem occurs with IE6 I think. Have you checked if it happens even with IE7 and 8.

There is a way to attribute code only for internet explorer only and firefox and other browsers seperately.

To be honest these things are quite tough to correct. But I am pretty sure you can ignore IE6 as most people have moved to IE7 if not 8/

If you have analytics do check how many visitors if not on this blog use IE6.

Ill post more help keep me updated..

Actually, I've checked it with IE7 at home and elsewhere, and the problem persists. I really wish it was only for IE6, then I wouldn't have to worry about it at all - but as far as I can tell, on my IE7, it still stays ugly, and if more than 50 % of my readers will be using IE7, that wouldn't be too good...

Does it not show up on your IE? Is it all good there? If so, maybe it /is/ just my stupid computer and I don't have to worry about it after all... Hmmm. Oh, and by "I've checked your blog", do you mean my /actual/ blog when you go to my profile, which isn't really complete yet - or the link to the example blog that I gave you?

Update: I also checked with BrowserShots (which I found out through your blog too!) and the results for IE7 are the same - the white line underneath dissapears and the tabs seem to float 3 or 4 pixels above the bottom of the spirals image. :(
